Flowering Cacti

I love cacti. Our trip to Mexico gave me some lovely opportunities to photograph some wild cacti in their natural habitat. Luckily a number of them were flowering at the time. All photos were shot with a Nikon D60 and a Nikkor 18/55 mm with a UV filter. I had the macro-mode on. The cacti were artificially shaded. No flash was used. Enjoy them.

Echinocactus platyacanthus: We found this cactus near the city of Zaragoza (Nuevo Leon State), over 2000 meters above sea level. The soil contains a high percentage of gypsum which gives a whitish hue to the image.

Pelecifora aselliformis: We found it close to the city of San Luis Potosì.

Coriphanta cornifera:  We found it along “Carretera 57” (from Mexico City towards the US border), in the state of San Luis Potosì. These images are artificially shaded.

Telocactus exaedrophorus: We found it along “Carretera 57” (from Mexico City towards the US border), in the state of San Luis Potosì. These images are artificially shaded.
