Some fish are more commonly encountered in the hobby than others. Information about rare or extinct species is of paramount importance to hobbyists. Understanding the nature of organisms who share, or shared, the same environment with the fish we keep gives us useful insights into the needs and requirements of the latter, in addition to expanding our knowledge.
