Haddon Hall, Derbyshire, UK.

Haddon Hall is a fortified medieval manor house dating from the 12th Century. It is the home of Lord and Lady Edward Manners whose family have owned it since 1567. Described by Simon Jenkins in 1000 Best Houses as "the most perfect house to survive from the middle ages", this remarkable old house is surrounded by terraced Elizabethan gardens and is set amongst the rolling countryside of the Peak District National Park.

As with all castles (interiors in general), you have to cope with a variety of light levels, space constrains and many subjects that need different approach to get a nice picture. Thankfully there were not many visitors when we got there so we were allowed to use our tripods. This meant we could use small apertures and long exposures which resulted in optimal shooting conditions. We selected the pictures shown here with variety in mind. Thus we have a couple of shots of Haddon House from the outside, photos of the chapel, the entrance and the dining room along with details of tapestry and windows.

We would most certainly recommend a visit to the Hall. In addition to its historical significance Haddon Hall has a warm, welcoming atmosphere due to the friendliness of the staff and their eagerness to explain the history behind it.
