Metro Stations of Moscow: Part I

The metro stations of Moscow are thought to be some of the most elegant and beautiful metro stations in the world. With a wide variety in architecture and thematology they certainly live up to the expectations. Taking pictures was very tricky for a variety of reasons. The light was low, the stations were very busy so it was quite difficult to avoid people in the frames, communication with the locals was impossible as I do not speak Russian and I could not find anybody speaking another language and finally there was a police presence everywhere. The policement were unpredictable: some did not allow video recordings (which was fine by me), others were mostly concerned about the use of a tripod whilst some forbade the use of a camera whatsoever. All in all I had to frame and shoot very quickly; as photographers know such haste is the worst enemy of good shots. From a technical viewpoint the use of wide apertures  for faster shutter speeds was a must since I couldn‘t risk the use of my tripod. My biggest concern was to keep my hands steady and the camera straight to capture a sharp and well-centered shot as fast as I could.
