"When was the last time you spent a quiet moment just doing nothing - just sitting and looking at the sea, or watching the wind blowing the tree limbs, or waves rippling on a pond, a flickering candle or children playing in the park?" Ralph Marston

Waves I It was a very windy afternoon at Kini Bay, Syros. It was sunset time; the sun was getting ready to meet the sea, when some very impressive waves began to intrude the beach. I grabbed my camera, stepped into the water and began shooting. I was trying to use the backlight of the sun to capture the sand that was rising inside the waves. Waves Waves are perhaps the most photographed subject by people spending time near the sea. Such photos usually show huge waves splashing on lighthouses or those Hawaii - type waves which are high, with a huge distance between them, ideal for surfing. In this album we show nothing of the sort. The waves you will see here were shot at various coasts of the Aegean Sea during our summer holidays. In some photos the task was to capture the moment by freezing the splashes and droplets as they formed – a moment in time, the result of nature’s force. We were sitting on the rocks at Aghios Ioannis (East Pelion) a little bit before sunset, when the sun is low and its rays hit the droplets at an angle. In the first photo the cloud formed by the tiny droplets is surrounded and dominated by larger drops. In the second one a white pyramid makes a lovely contrast with the dark blue of the sea and the sky. The dark rocks at the foreground frame the photo nicely. The third photo is shot at Mylopotamos (East Pelion). The wave is part of the scene and not the dominant subject in this photo; the deep turquoise and white combination make a nice contrast to the dark rocks and the natural rocky arc over us.Photos by Marina Parha and George J.
