Paysandisia archon (Family: Castniidae; common name: Palm moth, Palm borer)

This rather large and impressive moth has recently being introduced to Europe causing much concern. Apparently its larvae feed on the bark of palm trees causing irretrievable damage. Though the European authorities are naturally concerned by its presence in the Mediterranean countries I considered myself lucky to see it from a photographic point of view; pest or no pest, this is an impressive animal.

Thanks to Matt Rawling for the identification of this moth.
