Looking After the Eggs (Grebe)
Both parents were taking turns to look after the eggs. During the time we observed and photographed the nest the female was in the nest. She regularly repositioned herself and re-arranged the eggs under her, then fluffed herself up and sat on them again. Every time she was changing positions the male parent was bringing her more material to put in the nest, mainly weeds and reeds. As a result the nest kept changing shape and form regularly, which made photoshooting difficult (various 'objects' kept appearing at different angles, barring our view of the birds). The parent that was not guarding the eggs spent a lot of time near the nest, clearly communicating with the parent in the nest, which was amazing to witness. The last photo shows the eggs of a different pair of grebes in a nest nearby.
