Courting (Podiceps cristatus; Grebe)
Outside the mating season the pairs we have observed are not often seen together. In spring time they come together in their chosen territory, usually the same area and start courting. The pair swim quite close and each birds pays quite a lot of attention to its chosen mate. The photos in this album show the interaction between the pair, prior to what is known as 'the penguin dance'.The last photo shows the bird in its courting 'outfit'.
