Podiceps cristatus (Grebe) We have often admired these birds from a distance; they live in Sale water park. Though the park attracts a lot of visitors the grebes keep their distance. Once they perceive you approaching they gently move towards the middle of the lake thus becoming inaccessible (except of course if one has an exotic tele of some considerable significance). We have noticed two pairs and have been waiting for a while for them to mate. This year we have been lucky. Both pairs nested and laid eggs. Patiently waiting under cover to get some photos of the nest and eggs we managed to get some close up photos of the parent birds too. The first and third photo show the female, the rest show the male. Photos
