Larus michahellis (Yellow legged gull) Passengers on the ferry from Alexandroupolis to Samothraki habitually feed the gulls bread and biscuits. When we boarded the ferry there was not a single gull in sight; the birds joined us a few miles away from the coast knowing they were in for their usual treat. The birds were flying very close to the boat checking which one of the extended hands was holding a biscuit. The sky was covered by the flock, which in itself was a rather impressive view. We offered the birds treats and got the opportunity to get some good shots of them as they were hovering mid-air.
