“The reason birds can fly and we can't is simply that they have perfect faith, for to have faith is to have wings.”        James Matthew Barrie

High Flyers (Cygnus olor)

We are used to seeing this beautiful bird swimming gracefully (usually in pairs) on lakes and rivers. On this particular occasion a flock of birds was visiting Sale Park. Suddenly we noticed a commotion and the birds flew off. It was an absolutely breathtaking experience to see these large animals flying high. You would have thought that their large body would make them awkward flyers yet their ability to cruise through the air was amazing.  As the birds were clearly playing (they were circling over the lake and landing again), we took a number of photos from different angles and distances. The ones we present in this album show a bird taking off and flying over the lake.
