My Amphibious Tank
My Amphibious Tank

After my second attempt at siliconing this tank, it is watertight. This is the oddly shaped 80g that I've had for about 5 months now. I finally came up with a concept suitable for a tank with the dimensions 4' wide, 3' high, 1' front to back. An amphibious tank is how I would describe it. I built a shelf using PVC piping, in order to make an "island" of land without having the additional weight of filling up half the tank with gravel. I put a glass platform on top of the PVC frame, and on top of that I used a tray that is meant for using a roller to paint your house with. I picked up a piece of stainless steel mesh, which is inflexible, and covered it with moss matting to allow the amphibians access to the water via this crude ramp. I purchased some vine-like plastic plants and attached them to the back wall with the enclosed suction cups. I filled the paint tray with river gravel and some flat stones, and using a powerhead, created a crude flow of water by punching holes in a hose. I added some java moss in the "river" section, and also used some to cover the hose. I have some red-bellied toads, some carribean anoles, and a few fire-bellied newts. I cycled the water with goldfish, and have just today added some archer fish, which should be interesting to watch as they feed on the same small crickets which I feed the amphibians. Anyway, I'm sending you a few photos to show you what the hell I've been talking about here.
