Mantis Religiosa: The Eggs

"As I progressed further with my project, it became obvious that it was really unimportant where I chose to photograph. The particular place simply provided an excuse to produce work ... you can only see what you are ready to see - what mirrors your mind at that particular time." George Tice

Mantis religiosa: The Eggs (Family: Mantidae; common name: Praying mantis) We were delighted to be able to take photos of two interesting stages of the life of Mantis religiosa. The swollen abdomen of the insect in the first photo is full of eggs. The two photos that follow show the 'sac' with the eggs attached on a leaf. As an extra bonus we found a younger M. religiosa which caught itself in the web of a spider and was literally eating its way out. It is evident that the target was the spider but somehow it missed it. These specimens were found in West Peloponnese, Greece. Photos by Mahi Goula and George Parchas Shooting Data: 1.
