Clamator glandarius (Family: Cuculidae; common name: Great spotted cuckoo; Gk: κισσόκουκκος) This bird is not common in our part of the world. In fact only one breeding pair is thought to reside in Strophylia reserve (West Peloponnese, Greece) so we were pretty lucky to spot it. We were even luckier to observe the breeding, with the male offering the female a flower, which she accepted prior to mating. The flower is part of the mating ritual since these birds do not feed on flowers. Very careful not to disturb the birds we captured the whole process with the male offering the flower, which was accepted prior to mating. The mating ended with the female grabbing the male's bill. This process was repeated. Photos by Mahi Goula and George Parchas Shooting Data: 1. Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II 2. Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II 3. Camera: Canon EOS 5D Mark II 4.
