“In the Spring a fuller crimson comes upon the robin's breast; In the Spring the wanton lapwing gets himself another crest; In the Spring a livelier iris changes on the burnished dove; In the Spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.” A. Tennyson

Vanellus vanellus (Lapwing)

On a visit to a nature reserve (Uitkerkse polders near Blankenberge) I was amazed to see the lapwing coming very close to the people on the roads. Admittedly these shots were taken with long lenses, but in the first shot the bird was so close that I had to wait until it fitted into the frame without chopping off it's feet.
