"The thinking man must oppose all cruel customs no matter how deeply rooted in tradition or surrounded by a halo. We need a boundless ethics which will include the animals also. My life is full of meaning to me. The life around me must be full of significance to it. If I want others to respect my life, then I must respect the other life I see however strange it may be to mine. Ethics in our western world has hitherto been largely limited to the relation of man to man... but that is a limited ethics." Albert Schweitzer

Panic We saw a family of mute swans in Sale water park. One of the young birds was quite friendly and approached us for food while the other was too busy fiddling with its neck and leg as if something bothered it. We took a closer look and discovered that it got itself tied up with a fishing line. The line must have got round its leg and as the bird was swimming round to free itself it ended up in a right mess. The bird panicked and struggled as Marina was trying to free it without hurting it. Eventually she managed to set it free while I was taking photos of the event. Interestingly enough Sale water park is an environmental resort and the use of fishing lines is strictly prohibited in the area this bird resides. Photos by George J. Reclos Camera: Nikon D300 |
