Araneus diadematus (Family: Araneidae; common name: European garden spider)

The European garden spider, also known as diadem spider or cross spider is a a widespread orb-weaver spider in Europe and America. The colour of individuals differs (ranging from light yellow to dark grey). Members of the species living in Europe are distinguishable by five or more large white dots forming a cross on their back.
Larger females built the webs and lie, head down, waiting for their prey. The prey is wrapped in silk prior to being eaten. Orb weavers spin a new web each morning as they tend to eat their web at the end of each day.
