Scorpaena scrofa (common name: Large scaled scoprionfish)

One of the most common scorpion fish in the Mediterranean sea. It is usually lurking under rocks, sometimes covered with algae which make it invisible. This is the least colourful scorpion fish but very well suited to its environment. It isvenomous; the sting of large specimens can penetrate a diver's glove. This fish was found at a depth of 2 meters.  The photo was taken in the Saronic gulf in the summer of 2010.
