To submit your photographs for publication to MCH Portal you must email them to the Webmaster. The address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it - alternatively you can click on any link (links to the Webmaster appear in bold, i.e. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
Photographs intended for publication in the Photography section:
1. Landscape orientation photographs should be at least 1000 px across up to 1600 px across, in JPEG format. Portrait orientation photographs should be at least 800 px (height) and up to 1200 px (height). Please do not email RAW formats unless specifically requested to do so. The photographs should be edited, i.e. should be exactly as you wish them to appear.
2. Please do not mark the photos with logos, initials or your name. All photos are watermarked with the MCH logo to indicate the hosting site. Full credits are given in the accompanying text to the photographer(s). All photos remain the intellectual property of the photographer(s). For more information see our Copyright policy.
3. Photos should be submitted as individual files, not embedded in documents.
4. The text accompanying the photo(s) should be submitted separately in Microsoft Word or Notepad format. Please make sure you include your name (and the names of any other photographers who may have worked with you to take the submitted photos), the technical data of your photo(s) and a short text about the photo(s). For the technical data field we require the following information:
- Make / Model of Camera used
- Make / Model of Lens used (please be as specific as possible). Lenses of the same focal length can differ considerably, e.g. subsequent versions by comparison to previous ones etc.
- ISO settings
- Speed, DoF and Shooting Mode settings (including EV adjustments where appropriate)
- Flash, Support used (where appropriate)
- Editing information detailing the type of file the original was shot as (e.g. JPEG, RAW etc) and the interventions you have made (if any) to the original photograph in order to reach the final photo to be published (e.g. JPEG edited in Photoshop CS4, levels adjusted, sharpening added saved and resized.)
The photo below shows an example of what we would expect. More examples are available in any photo album in our Photography section:
6. If we feel the photographs cannot be published the Webmaster will email you explaining why we feel we cannot publish them. The Webmaster's decision is non-negotiable.
7. The Webaster may contact you to request the original (RAW) file for (a) submitted photo(s). In this case you will get an explanation of the reason for doing so.
8. In some cases we have to ask for an original (RAW) file to establish the copyright of a photo. Photos which we suspect are submitted in breach of copyright will not be published. Publication of a photo does not guarrantee it is copyright checked; the responsibility for respecting copyright laws lies with the person submitting the photos. For more information see our Copyright policy
9. If you are submitting photos for publication for the first time please email us a separate text with some information about yourself. This will help us introduce you to the MCH family.
Photographs intended for publication in the Photography section:
1. There is no minimum size provided the subject / topic of the photo can be seen clearly. The maximum size of the photos should not exceed the size stated in (1) above.
2. Please do not mark the photos with logos, initials or your name. Full credits are given in the caption or at the end of the text, where (a) photo(s) appear(s). For more information see our Copyright policy.
3. Photos should be submitted as individual files, not embedded in documents. If your photos are part of an article please indicate the file name of the photo at the appropriate point in the article (i.e. where you want the photo to appear). The text accompanying the photo(s) should be submitted separately in Microsoft Word or Notepad format:
You may choose an appropriate name for your photos (e.g. Sunset1) or use the camera name (DSC_6789.jpg). Whichever you decide to do please make sure that the name indicated in the text corresponds to the file name of the submitted photos. It is important to keep file names simple: MP_DSC_6789.jpg_flyingswans_23_8_2010 may be a good name for you to remember that this photo was taken by Michael Porter and shows flying swans taken on the 23 of August 2010. For us it is quite difficult to upload; add to this that some of the symbols used occasionaly by some photographers are not accepted by the program of the site - which results in errors unless we rename your photos.
4. You may submit one or as many photographs as you want us to consider for publication. We reserve the right to publish as many as we feel it is appropriate.
Useful Tips:
Try to avoid sending photos which show the same subject from the same angle. If you have more than one such photo send us the one you like the most.
High quality photos are required for our Photography section. For the other sections it is important that the subject is clearly visible.
If your photograph(s) is / are published, please make sure we have a valid email address for you at all times. We may need to contact you as we often get requests from third parties asking for permission to use the photos we publish. For more information see our Copyright policy.
Photos must be submitted by the photographer who took them. Work of other photographers can only be submitted with their written permission, which should be forwarded to the Webmaster together with the work to be published. The only exception is parents or guardians of underage children acting on their behalf.
Please note that photos submitted for publication cannot be retracted after the publication date.
