A word from MCH

Saturday, 12 June 2004 11:54

MCH Portal is devoted to the celebration of Nature. Our Photography section contains photos of beautiful landscapes and animals as well as articles and presentations about taking photos. In our Aquatic Life and Fishkeeping sections there are photos and information about aquatic species in their natural habitat and suggestions about keeping and breeding these in captivity. MCH Portal also contains links to other sites with similar content. Photography and fishkeeping are both arts so we chose the painting of the Italian artist Kho to represent them in our logo.

Welcome

Saturday 20 February 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved male Paratilapia sp. 'Andapa', Bouboukos. Bouboukos has been a legend in his own right. One of the two spawning males of his species in captivity worldwide for a very long time, he has fathered thousands of fish which now live all over Europe and can be admired in public aquaria as well as in privately owned tanks. Our friends and family will always remember him as the "king" of our fish house, the fish that would greet them and play with them every time they visited us, the fish that would "sulk" if we ignored him and appeared to be paying attention to somebody else. Bouboukos has taught us a lot over the years;  he wrote his own book about what a male cichlid is and how he should behave. He was a true member of our family; stories about his "tricks" and behaviour will always be bringing a smile to our faces. He passed away peacefully at the age of 7 due to old age, proud and healthy as he has always been.

His loving memory will always be with us.

On a happier note, we would like to welcome an old friend and a new contributor, Panos Philipakopoulos, to the site. Panos is an established aquarist whose article this month regards the treatment of skin ulcers in fish. Welcome on board, Panos.

A warm welcome, together with our most sincere congratulations for their excellent submission, goes to the team of students from the High School of Neochori, Greece, for their presentation of the wetland of Strofylia - Kotychi in Peloponese. It is a thorough, informative, well researched and well presented piece of work; we are confident that everybody will enjoy reading it as much as we did. We would welcome more of these initiatives from teachers and students - and as for you guys, get on to your next project, we are waiting for it!!!

Enjoy the update, everybody!
